A question for those working in psychology, social work, psychiatry, or medical field?

What do they teach you in school about desensitizing your mind. Meaning if a person talks about something that your squeamish about.

How do you keep a straight face? Maybe you learned something on your own

It’s all about maintaining a balance b/w empathy and a certain immunity that allows us to perform our jobs to the best of our abilities.De briefing is very important to coping with certain issues seen in some areas of work such as nursing, police work, firefighting etc…
The more you expose yourself to something the more effective you are at coping with what you see, though at times i’m still affected by cases i hear or see or assist in,talking does help you manage the feelings you have, you wouldn’t be human if things didn’t affect you.
Some of my colleagues go for a drink after a particular horrendous shift or week, commradery and teamwork helps as does a few shots of tequila.
