About joining the military with mental hospital history?
I am aware that it is against the law to join the military if you’ve ever been in a mental hospital. I have been in a mental hospital, but I was tricked into going there. I was a voluntary patient meaning they didn’t forcibly put me in it. I was not crazy and I assure you that half the people there weren’t crazy. They are just profit-seeking industry; If you just took a random person accusing them of having some negative qualities (and everyone does) they would take the person in.
See these videos on more info on how they are a scam.

So my question is, before shipping you, do they actually do a background check on your Social Security Number? What about your Insurance records?
When I was in the mental hospital I was not a permanent resident yet, so I had no SS, so that if they checked my SS my mental hospital record would not appear. However, if they checked into my medical insurance records, it would appear.
So the question is *would* they check into my medical insurance records?
The impression I get is, as long as you don’t tell them that you’ve been in a mental hospital they won’t find out. (I asked on Yahoo Answers before if you can join the military w/ mental hospital history and someone answered that her husband was in a mental hospital for some time but he joined.)
i did not lie. the recruiters didn’t ask me if i’ve ever been in mental hospital. they did ask me if i had any mental issues n i answered no.
i’m planning to join soon.

No, for initial entry they do not go digging up everyone’s mental health, or medical records. The problem is, if you have any issue with mental health in the future, lying may come back to bite you in the azz. If you get a "job" that require a top secret clearance and the military conducts a field interview, then someone rats you out, you can get into BIG trouble. If you lie to get into the military it is ILLEGAL! It is called fraudulent enlistment, and is prosecutable as a federal crime. I would not recommend lying.

I have never heard of anyone ever getting charges pressed on them for lying at MEPS, if your really that scared of it just pick an MOS that does not require a security clearance.
I lied about so much..and i ship nov. 16th no problems
and the recruiter might not ask but the ppl at MEPS will…its ok to tell your recruiters because they want you to join no matter what they will tell you whatever may sound bad…DENY!!

The only thing that can be a problem for you is if you declared no mental health history on any paperwork in or after MEPS. Regardless of the situation, you were in a mental health institution according to you so you could be charged under Article 107 of the UCMJ.
