are there any physical disorders that can cause the symptoms of borderline personality disorder?
basically people have said in the past on this forum that underlying physical problems can cause mental health symptoms, this has reinforced the anxiety in me do i have an underlying physical condition that could be causing my physical symptoms INSTEAD of my bpd diagnosis ??
and would i know it ? would i know if i have a biological problem that caused mental / psychological problems ?
basically im 31 now, suffered a very hard, tough life, years ago i was diagnose with borderline personality disorder and my psychiatrist accepted i have symptoms of PTSD disorder to.
in the past my symptoms have been :, mind racing, cluttered, scattered thoughts, forgetting what i was thinking minutes before —obsessive worries— repetitive asking questions on yahoo about same life circumstances —– impulsive outbursts of rage in public, difficult controlling aggression and rage ; antisocial anger towards people ; spacing out ( dissociation ) - persecutory paranoia , agoraphobia , intense panic and anxiety feelings when outside , palpitations ; a feeling of feeling abandoned and out of control : always found it difficult to concentrate and absorb information : ( although ive read books and understood them ) : keep having to re read sentences to understand them : mind drifts off whilst reading a page of words.
always had low self esteem, difficulty interacting, forming and maintaining friendships . im very intellectual and are often told im very intelligent, understand things well, talk well , and have a good mind. have a good imagination. can converse very well.
as a kid was quite hyperactive, always running around , but calmed alot into teenage years.
my mind always races every day, racing thoughts, keep forgetting things , my mind feels scattered with thoughts, difficulty trying to organise and structure.
have obsessive worrying thoughts about physical, mental health.
now those are all the symptoms i can think of that ive always experienced.
ive NOT been diagnosed with ADD , aspergers , autism , ocd or bi polar - and my psychiatrist was adamant i dont have those disorders.
iam presently working with the mental health services although the therapy i want is not available ( psychotherapy ) because of lack of resources and funding, i have to accept what theyre offering which is an OT worker to go out into society to help me get integrated because ive been reclusive a long time now..
if i do have those disorders would i know it ? and would they prevent me from getting on with life like education and career and learning etc ???
my moods fluctuate from being deeply depressed, despairing, abandoned, lonely, to feeling ok again the next hour , then the next hour to feeling ANGRY, ENRAGED , full of anxiety , mind racing constantly . see thinks in BLACK and WHITE etc. unstable impulsive moods…
this is why i agree i have Borderline PD .
ive been told i probablly dont have aspergers or bi polar or autism or ocd which came as a relief recentley.
but i scored high in an online adhd test recentley, and a GAD test , general anxiety disorder –
as well as my borderline personality disorder diagnosis , im also worrying at the moment do i have other possible disorders with it, for eg - GAD — OCD — bi polar — ADD — im worried i may have these other disorders undiagnosed, even though my psychiatrist said i dont have bi polar or ocd .

I have a son with BPD this is a disorder that is usually caused by trauma during childhood such as physical or sexual abuse that the child was not able to cope with mentally. You do have all of the symptoms. It is not a matter of the therapy that you want because there are specific therapies for BPD one is Cognitive Restructuring Therapy, with this therapy you learn the distortions that you have about yourself that affect your self esteem, you learn to like yourself, this can change your life for the better it did for my son. There is also Emotion Regulation Therapy which gives you the skills to help with your anger and sadness and the terrible feelings of lonliness and abandonment this also helped my son immensely. There is also a new one called EMDR which helps you find in your mind the traumas that caused your BPD. You should be taking an antipsychotic medication and an antidressant which are of a great help for you. BPD is a disorder that you have to work hard with therapy if you want success. Young people don't completely recover but with hard work learn to live a successful and happy life. This is also something that can go away with age after about 40 years old. You can go to the site nami.org for any information that you want it is the site for the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill they are by far your best source of information and you can find the chapter in your city who can help you also. Good Luck to you and your well being, You don't deserve and don't have to continue suffering if you do the work. Severe depression is also a part of this disorder. Always remember that it is not your fault

Psychotropic drugs cause all the symptoms you have mentioned and they will continue to increase and get worse. Your mind is disabled and may be permanently impaired the longer you are on them. Psychiatry claims brain chemical imballance which has been scientifically proved to be a myth promoted by drug companies.

Hi!
My mom's a psychiatric nurse practitioner and I suffer from both borderline personality disorder and bipolar. As far as I know there are no physical symptoms that determine whether or not you have a mental disorder. But, if you get anxious like I do, or really stressed, sometimes that can cause physical problems. (Like back aches or headaches.) Just so you know, borderline personality and bipolar normally come hand in hand. I'm not saying you do have bipolar, but that's usually the case. If you want to be completely sure, I would suggest you go see someone for a second opinion. Maybe they can help you determine if you do suffer from another disorder.
Hope this helped!

I have been diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, PTSD, and GAD. I have the exact same symptoms. It does sound like bi-polar disorder. I have chronic anger also.My medications keep the mood and emotional swings at check- most of the time. Sometimes I "cycle", but it might be 2-3 days rather than weeks or months. Your psychiatrist needs to try different meds on you. Mine did- and it took 3 years to get it perfect.
My current cocktail is:
Lamictal 200mg 2x (morning and pm)
Seroquel - up to 350mg, now down to between 50-150mg. (mood stabilizer & anti-psycotic)
Xanax XR 2-4mg, depending on my "mood", usually right now 2mg before bed. Been on xanax therapy for about 1 1/2 years, it works.
However, I first went through all of the anti-depressants, from prozac, wellbutrin, zoloft, paxil, etc.
None of them worked.
I also tried abilify with no change.
If you feel depressed, yes, there are physical aches and pains.
How long have you been seeing you psychiatrist? This is what it sounds like to me:
Bi-polar disorder with possible agrophobia and definately generalized disorder. Your symptoms match mine almost to a "T".
I would certainly discuss all of these symptoms. Write them down so you have them organized(well somewhat, i understand) and bring the list with you to the doctor.
Best of luck, I feel your pain and frustrations.
Are you taking medication? if so, what?
