Can a person with schizophrenia become a psychiatrist to treat mentally ill people?
i just graduated from medical school. i was diagnosed schizophrenia 1 year ago. currently i am stable and my symptoms are occasional. but i still can hear voices. i am confident that i am able to work. i have deep interest to further my study in psychiatry. does this specialty suitable for me? what are the challenges? have ever people who mentally ill become a doctor and then specialize? thank u for your comments

I think you are in a serious position to actually help people better then any other regular person, because with some patients, you know exactly what they’re going through! people with schizophrenia may even come in looking for help, and who else would be better to help them then a person who schizophrenia. I think this specialty is extremely suitable for you. The only thing that is challenging you is whether you believe in yourself or not.

I am not an expert about the occupational side of psychiatry, but my first impression is yes you can be a psychiatrist and maybe a very good one. Most people I have come across in this field have some experience with mental or behavioral issues themselves. It only helps them to understand their clients better. Of course you would have to be properly medicated or mostly unaffected by it.
