Can i sue my doctor/nhs?

Okay, this is a very long story but i’ll keep it as short as possible.

2 years ago i took ill at work. I was sitting at my desk when suddenly I went REALLY dizzy/faint, my heart was pounding out my chest and I thought I was gonna black out. I could hardly breathe/speak and people were shouting at me. It lasted a few seconds and then i was okay. But when I got up and walked, I got really strange sensations in my head (like I was moving different directions).

Things got worse and I kept having really dizzy spells, feeling sick, extreme fatigue, seizures at night, headaches, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pains, pins and needles/tingling in my arms and legs, couldn’t tolerate medication or alcohol, confusion, mental changes etc.

The first doctor I saw (at my local health centre) said it was probably just a chest infection/virus and to come back in a month if it didnt get better. Well it got worse. Next doctor I saw checked my blood pressure and told me nothing was wrong with me. Same with the next doctor, although he ordered some blood tests and an ECG to be sure.

Tests were negative but I was still getting worse, to the point where i could hardly get out of bed, but kept being told nothing was wrong and it was anxiety blah blah blah. Even had one doctor give me a 20 min lecture on mental symptoms causing physical symptoms and how I was depressed/anxious and needed psychotherapy! I was adamant this was incorrect, and have said all along i think its my liver (due to symptoms/location of pain etc) but no one would listen.

Eventually I saw a doctor who seemed willing to do some tests. But again after a few visits she said she didnt know what was wrong and basically told me to f off.

I havent worked for over a year and hardly leave the house because im so ill. A few weeks ago some bruising appeared on my abdomen so i went back to the doctor. When she looked at it she immediately examined my abdomen and ordered blood tests, telling me that there may be something wrong with my liver! She mentioned hepatitis amongst other things.

Over these 2 years I have accumulated about 60 visits to the doctors, 5 hospital appointments and 5 or 6 visits to ER when I was really ill.

All they ever said was its anxiety. I was adamant it was my liver but they just said ‘your liver feels fine’!

My question is, if it turns out to be my liver, can I/should I sue my doctor/s. Considering I havent worked for a year I am practically homeless as I cant afford my rent and have loads of debts that started since i’ve been ill. My point is if they’d listened to me in the first place and checked my liver, they’d have found out a lot sooner what was wrong. But doctors being the high almighty assholes think they know your body better than you.

If it is my liver, after 2 years it’s most likely badly damaged/chronic when it could have been different if doctors werent so arrogant.

Anyway, rant over. Would love to hear your thoughts on this, especially if you work for the NHS. Maybe you could explain why doctors refuse to listen to patients????

Liver problems are very evident such as jaundice, dark urine, pale stool, bone loss, easy bleeding, itching, small, spider-like blood vessels visible in the skin, enlarged spleen, fluid in the abdominal cavity, chills, pain from the biliary tract or pancreas, and an enlarged gallbladder. You’re a hypochondriac.

Definitely a rant. Considering that those symptoms don’t resemble a liver problem, The doctors did treat you based on the symptoms presented to them. They didn’t cause the liver problem. The symptoms you described are most likely just what the Dr.s thought, that you are a Cretan, a drag on society and unwilling to take responsibility for your own actions. Those Dr.s didn’t cause you to be homeless or lose your job, you did. You are what is wrong with this world, and I hope you die from your disease soon, so we will have one less piece of trash to worry about in this world.

The doctors have already done tests on your liver to determine it was fine. There are liver function tests that would show them if there is a problem with your liver. I’m sure they already did them in your blood work. There are also physical symptoms that would appear if it was your liver such as jaundice (yellow skin and whites of eyes). I think it’s a long shot thinking you can sue them when I’m sure they did the basic testing that needs done to determine whether or not you have a liver problem. I don’t know what it is, but I think you can rule out the liver. It’s really a pretty tough organ that can take a terrible amount of abuse before it gets damaged beyond repair. Hep C can take over 20 years to hurt it. Alcoholics can abuse it well over 10-15 years before it starts to show damage. Your liver function numbers would not be normal if there is a liver problem.
