Can I take Xanax at work?
I have social anxiety and Generalized Anxiety Disorder and have psychotherapy for it, but am not on a regular anxiety med as they usually are basically tranquilizers and I wouldn’t be able to function at work.
I had a severe panic attack a few weeks ago and was prescribed Xanax at the Urgent Care Center but haven’t taken any yet. Can I take these at work if I start freaking out or will they make me act weird? My attention is required and I stand for 10 hours/day so I wouldn’t be able to sit down or "zone out".
Thank you for your insight!

I would take them a few times at home just to see how you’ll react to them. I don’t imagine that xanax will make you that out of it, but everyone responds differently. Goodluck!

you should definitely ask a doctor before taking this medicine because it generally depends from one person to the other. Usually it is recommended that you take it after eating something and after taking the pill you should take a lot of water. hope it helps and you feel better!

Take it at home and do things like cooking and going for a walk outside, doing some laundry
and see how you feel. It’s best to have someone with you the first time, just in case you forget
what you’re doing or fall asleep.

I’ve been on all different benzos at one time or another and took them daily. I started on 1mg of klonopin and ended on about 8mg of Xanax a couple of years later. My tolerance got too high and they eventually became useless so I stopped taking them. I have never had a problem taking anti-anxiety meds and they never made me act weird. Believe me, I acted WAY stranger when having an anxiety or panic attack. I took them all the time and they would just make me feel ‘normal’. But, I know people who can’t stay awake on them at all and there’s no way they’d be able to work or function normally.
So, only you would know what your reaction would be. You can start by taking the lowest possible dose (like .25mg) and just work your way up if it’s not enough. As far as I know, you shouldn’t really be zoning out on that stuff anyway. I understand you take them as tranquilizers but you should try to find that middle area where you’re not freaking out but you’re still ‘with it’, you know? It’s not supposed to get you all messed up and if it is, you may be over doing it. I’d think you’d want to just take enough to be able to deal with the bad feeling until it passes, not take so much that you block out everything around you.

I definately suggest an antidepressant (SSRI). I take lexapro and work. It doesn’t matter what drugs you take because there all "drugs" and are going to have some side effects. I figured I’d rather have less anxiety and be happier that not take anything becuase of side effects. My debilitating social anxiety outweights any side effect, any day if it helps me live a more healthier, happier life style.
