can someone please help me?

my therapist wants me to print out information on how to manage social anxiety. she wants to look over it because she isn’t familiar with it. Here it is 1:15am and I’m making myself sick over this simple task because I’m afraid what I print out won’t be good/thorough enough. Like when I go to a site it shows a link about treatment and it talks about cognitive behaviour therapy. I should print that, right? I just feel so stupid because I don’t get why I’m doing this. I mean I should be seeing someone who knows about my disorder already. And if I print the wrong stuff I’ll be wasting so much paper and ink and money and her time and i’ll like an idiot like i do right this minute. should i shoot myself? i don’t think this whole treating my disorder thing is gonna work. i can’t describe how i feel, i don’t know what to do, and with a therapist who hasn’t dealt with this before i feel like i’m alone

Take a deep breath..shes not giving you a grade….you can afford to print a few pages…dont worry about it being good or bad……print anything and get some rest…..thats much more important. Maybe your therapist knows ,but thinks this is some kind of treatment?? Just ask..
    good luck

You need a new therapist. One that has treated Social Anxiety. Yours obviously hasn’t. There is nothing wrong with seeking a new therapist. Your concern is YOU getting better, not what this under-qualified individual thinks.

No therapist worth seeing is going to send a patient home to seek out info to teach the therapist how to treat them, that is just laziness on her part. She obviously does not care enough about helping you to do the research herself.

Unless you live in the desert somewhere, with only one doctor and no vehicle and phone, there is no reason you cannot find a qualified therapist. Just call around and ask if the person is familiar with Social Anxiety and it’s treatment. Then when you go for your first visit, ask her how many patients she has treated with SA or how long she has been treating patients with SA.

You are NOT alone! Social anxiety is quite common.
You definitely need a different therapist. You should never have to worry about being judged by a therapist.
The only thing that I can think of is that she wanted YOU to read the stuff you are printing out so you would know what your options are. Go to bed. Get some sleep. Tomorrow is a new day. You are obviously an intelligent person. There are many people who have been where you are. This is not the end of the world.
