Could I double major in both dermatology and psychiatry?

Both of them are doctors so would it be possible to major in both?

My mom keeps telling me you can only earn a degree in one thing but I thought you could do both? I can’t decide if I want to do dermatology or psychiatry. Both interest me a lot.

Are they too different though?

Becoming both a Dermatologist and Psychiatrist is theoretically possible, but it would be ridiculous to do so.

First, of all, neither of those things are undergraduate majors. They both require med school. So, you would start by majoring in whatever you want to earn a Bachelors degree (4 years). Then, you would do medical school (4 years). After that, 3 years of residency where you would begin learning your specialization, and at the end you’d get your medical license. After that, you would do more years of very specialized training in your chosen field.

As far as I know, residency and specialization are both completely full-time endeavours, meaning you can’t learn two different areas at the same time. In order to get both, you would have to do your specialization training all over again in the second area; a big waste of time.

Also, even if you did become licensed as both a psychiatrist and a dermatologist, there’s no way you can actually work as both. So, it’s all very pointless.
