get rid of the spiders that come in the house
in the past couple of days ive seen two really big spiders. What do i do to stop them coming in the house? i’m terrified of all but the really tiny ones and dread the summer autumn months when they’re about more. i’ve heard mixed rumours about conkers and some electromagnetic repeller sold by some company called primrose london. has anyonne tried these or other things and found them to be effective over a course of months? and has anyone ever had hypnotherapy to deal with their phobia here.

You have some cracks that they are getting through. Go around the outside of the house with some expanding foam sealant. Squirt it between the foundation and siding, and around any pipe and wiring (carefully) entries into the home.
Once they’re in, personally, I scoop them up in a cup and toss them outside. Trying to protect the karma a bit.
Sometimes in the basement I just let them be. I figure they’ll take care of other bugs that might get in. (Just a few won’t harm anything.)

I used to live in an old farmhouse in Iowa and spiders were abundant. Someone told us to put "hedgeballs" around the house. These are also known as Osage hedge balls, hedgeapples, and other names. They grow on trees in Iowa so it was easy to obtain them and the spiders were rarely seen after we put them out. Once a year, we put new ones out. I just tossed 3 or 4 in various places in the house. In the basement, behind the sofa, etc. I found this website where they are sold and will soon be in season. Evidently the EPA won’t allow them to claim they work as insect repellents but I can attest to their effectiveness as such. You can do some searching by typing in hedgeballs on Google for more info but here’s the one website.
Good luck! — a fellow spider-hater

Recently, I was having an insect problem, and I bought some spray called Ortho Max Home Defense. It kills all bugs. Spray it at the base of your home and around your windows and you should be fine. You can spray it inside as well. The cost ranges from $10 to $20, depending on where you shop.
By the way, whether a spider serves an "ecological" benefit or not. I still don’t want them in my house either. Homes are for people, outside is for bugs.
Good luck.
