How do I figure out a direction to follow for school and career?

I used to be an animal groomer for 6 years, and had previously worked as a vet assistant, but decided to go back to school full time to pursue something different. I’ve already taken many different career and personality assessments, and have a good idea of my strengths/weaknesses, and what types of things I enjoy. My problem is that I don’t feel a strong pull towards one of my particular interests more than others, so I don’t know how to figure out what I would be best suited to. I have a strong interest in philosophy, psychology, and psychiatry. I enjoy working with animals, good listener, love solving puzzles/problems. Some of the things I have considered doing are vet tech, psychiatric tech, and therapist. I definitely do not want to work in retail or sales. I would love to be able to do something related to philosophy, but the type of work directly related/involved with philosophy seems to be limited. So, any ideas, suggestions, advice that might help is very welcome. Thanks

Go to http://www.usajobs.opm.gov. It’s a government website, free, and offers an interest assessment.
See http://www.studentjobs.gov for student opportunities and http://www.escholar.gov for educational opportunities.
All this is government stuff, and as a taxpayer, you’re paying for it! Use it!
    Regards and best wishes!

You ask a very difficult question.

Let me narrow it down for you slightly. My uncle enjoyed philosophy. He was a young, intelligent academic who found philosophy the most intellectualy rewarding.

He is now 61 years old, lives in a basement suit, has no savings, and pays rent with the salary of his immigrant wife (who is quite charming, by the way).

His other brother, my Dad, finished grade nine, dropped out, and became a police officer. He is retired, well off and happy, and I will never need to support him financially.

I’m not telling you to become a police officer. I’m giving you a hint on the whole philosophy thing :) ..you can always read philosophy books on the side, you know!
