How does psychiatry effect our society?
Hi im doing a research report on psychiatry and i need to know how psychiatry effects our society. if you can find any statistics of what percentage of patients benefited from this profession or anything like that please tell me !

Well as far as psychiatry and stuff like that goes, it medicalizes deviance, meaning that anything that anybody does can be explained through medical definitions. It has impacted society in a great way, because nowadays criminals can get away with anything by just proving they have some mental problem.

You want to look into the mental institutions that were shut down in the US and how many people were not only misdiagnosed but were institutionalized just because they had nowhere to go. Psychiatry is one person who studies a lot about human behaviour and then says what is right and wrong for society. If you didn’t fit into the normal behaviour category you were put in. How many people pretended to be normal, and how many pretend now? I think society depends too much on them just because they think they have the answers.
