i have borderline personality disorder but they’ve told me…?

that theres no DBT or emdr therapy in my area. theyve offered psychotherapy, i went for an assesment and i was told its going to be in the form of group therapy but im wondering if this will help me or not?
i was told the proper therapy is dbt and emdr therapy.

i have alot of anger emotions, and controling anger outbursts, which i do better with now…..my anxiety is constantly high….i panicc at the thought of going out……..my thoughts race…..cant hold a train of thought…cant think strait….confused…..muddled up feelings inside…..dozens of things racing through my mind all at once.
my psychiatrist wont perscribe medications because he said their addictive……when ive found out that theres medications that could help….im going to seek a second opinion….as im worried there might be an imbalance….or my symptoms might mean other things other than the borderline..

im 30 now, ive aged badly, im bald, have 2 missing teeth, torn ankle ligaments.
what should i do?
im overweight….so physicallly…..i dont have it anymore either..

The first thing I would do is find another Psychiatrist. If he said he wouldn't prescribe medicine that may help me I wouldn't stay.

Yes, some medicines are addictive but, there are benefits from them. You don't always have to stay on the medication. You can taper off when you symptoms get better and stay better.

I've got this condition as well, same type of symptoms exactly. Group therapy would probably cause me so much anxiety I would never go anyways. This really needs to be one on one. Also, I had to go to several doctors and hear them say "well, there are some drugs that would help you, but they are drugs of abuse and I won't prescribe them." I finally found one who would. He started me on Xanax, Lithium, Remeron and Restoril for sleep. You need to find someone who will help you, even if it means moving someplace different. I know your life depends on it. I'm 31, and my red hair has turned almost silver from this curse, i've gained tons of weight and lost all my friends thru neglect. The meds make life bearable. Take what you can get.

It is always good to get a second opinion. I can tell you that from my own personal experience that I was scared to death of group therepy until I tried it. It really works. I wanted to try the emdr too but there were none close enough to where I lived. I do highly recommend group therapy. Sometimes its good to talk to others and find out things that help them get through situations.

EMDR and DBT are you best oppitions if you can find somewhere to get them. group therapy is beneficial because you become aware that you are not alone in your battles. BDT is done in a ghroup setting. there are books at the library on the subject as well as online groups for support. alot of the medications the can prescribe for racing thoughts and such are highly addictive….. and alot of doctors won't prescribe them. you need to establish trust with y our physician before they will consider prescribing them.

Look online at emdr.com to find a therapist. There are more of us being trained everyday and there should be one or more somewhere near you.
