I really need help with this question?

A researcher has designed a study to test the effects of different types of individual psychotherapy on people’s levels of depression. She has randomly assigned people to one of three groups: a cognitive-behavioral treatment group, a psychodynamic treatment group, or a no-treatment control group. She then measures people’s level of depression after the treatment. Which of the following statements is true

a.The treatment group is the dependent variable; depression is the independent variable.
b.Depression is the dependent variable; the treatment group is the independent variable.
c.Depression is the dependent variable; cognitive-behavioral treatment is the independent variable.
d.Cognitive-behavioral treatment is the dependent variable; depression is the independent variable.

I never took a psychology class in my life. But it would seem that the depression is the independent variable - as it is without any other variable. And I would say the treatment group (since the researcher used several types of therapy) would be the dependent variable since it relies on the fact that the group is depressed.

So my answer would be A.

for all I’m sure about is that depression is the independent factor…though I think that Cognitive-bahvioral treatment is the dependent variable…cz the other types of treatment might not have as good of an impact on the patients…cz as they eliminate the pointless thoughts and feelings and focus on a goal or sth they want, they do feel better and forget about the depression…I think it’s more useful than chemical treatment…
    hope that worx for u!
