If I seek to become a Psychiatrist, would taking Psychology and Sociology in high school be beneficial?
My sister says that Psych and Soc are general education classes in college, so I would be virtually taking the classes twice–but would taking the classes during my high school career catalyze my chances at being accepted by a better university (majoring in Psychology). I’m somewhat unknowledgeable in this area, so please feel free to share your knowledge!

Er, I would say yes. It will be to your advantage if you already have a nice foundation of the course you will choose.
If I were you, I’d still take them, even if I’d have to take them again when I enter college. The thing is, if you love or just want to learn new things about whatever, then studying will be easier. Psychology and Sociology are fun subjects to learn and I would like to believe you’re already aware of that. I wouldn’t mind having fun and learning at the same time twice.

I do not think you have to study it again. It will not be repeated. You can take psychology and sociology in high school stage itself. It will give you strong foundation.

The best way to learn about Psychology is to observe and listen to people. Remember its not the printed page you’ll be dealing with in practice, it will be live people. Book learning is fine, put people learning is an absolute must.

It depends on the quality of the program your high school offers. In my experience, most high schools provide low quality psych classes. Often even taught with a lot of bias. However, it can’t hurt. Just don’t take anything you learn, high school, college, even med school, as gospel truth when it comes to psychology. Keep an open mind.
