I'm 20 and just starting school. I want to become a psychiatrist, is it still okay to start studying for that?

Sweetie, it’s never too late to start studying for anything, as cliche that may sound. You’re still young! You’re my age, and I still don’t know what I want to do; I only know that I want to do something.

P.S. fact: oldest college grad: 95 years old. Nola Ochs.

It’s okay if you know how to fix people’s problems.

Sure. Remember you need to go to medical school for a psychiatrist but not for a psychologist.

Stupid profession. My brohter finished college with good grades and now he can’t find a job.

Absolutely! School is not only for 18 year old h.s. grads now-a-days…it doesn’t matter your age, as long as you’re motivated and ready to learn :) Good luck to you!

never to early or late to start studying for anything. the longer your study and the more research you do the easier itll be

    ….Umm… yea, its fine.

    Is this a serious question?

Because if dont have the ability to take initiative, then you shouldnt become a psychiatrist.

Only if your mind and heart are in the right place (not just in it for money) or else you’ll do more harm than good.

my friend, it is never too late in life to do anything that you are passionate about, or even have an interest in doing. if it tickles you, go for it!

It’s definately fine.. Some people start going to college at 40 or 50.. It’s not strange at all.

There’s always going to be crazy.. er, mentally ill people as well due to the econony going downhill.. That’s even making me a bit insane.

You have to take Gen Eds anyway, so throw in a few intro psych classes as electives just to make sure you like it and there’s your schedule.

  16. WOLF said:

Of course!! It’s never too late to study for something.

Congrats for making the decision on going back to school. It’s never too late to study something you’re interested in. In my university there are many people in their 40s - 50s still studying undergraduate courses. Especially now with all the economic crisis older people are applying to universities or re-enrolling to continue from where they left off. Sure a career path of becoming a psychiatrist is long but with hard work and dedication you will accomplish career and educational endeavors.

    Good luck.

If you have personal psychological or personal psychiatric problems or emotional life issues, you should avoid these professions. There are more than enough psycho-psychologists and psycho-psychiatrists. What is the agency ?
