Is hypnotherapy effective treatment for depression?
I have tried many different meds and nothing seems to really shake the empty disinterested feelings I have. Hoping something a little less conventional might work.

Hello,
I am a clinical hypnotherapist. Hypnotherapy is a great tool to help with depression. You can use it to determine the cause of your depression and how to heal. It is safe and very effective. I recommend choosing a clinical hypnotherapist certified by the American Council of Hypnotist Examiners. Here is a link to their list of approved schools: http://www.hypnotistexaminers.org/approved_schools.html By contacting the schools, they can recommend a good hypnotherapist for you.
There are many misconceptions about hypnotherapy. The other answers posted so far referred to straight hypnosis, which uses positive affirmations to get results. This is effective, but hypnotherapy is much more effective because you are able to discover the root of you issue yourself and work on it.
Because you are currently receiving medical attention for depression, you will need to get a note from your doctor stating that it is fine for you to see a hypnotherapist. This is for legal reasons. Hypnotherapy is completely harmless.
You can find more information about hypnosis on my website, http://www.ParkerHypnosis.com.
I hope this helps!

Dear One, I suggest cognitive-behavioral therapy and psychoanalytical therapies. Hypnosis is temporary and not a solid solution in my opinion. It is just my opinion. Meds alone are not the solution. Change counselors if you have one. Good luck and take care.

Much depends on the cause of the depression, but it can help, with some types. View the relevant depression posts at http://your-mental-health.8m.com/blank_27.html then page B.
Adopt the core treatments, (exercise, relaxation techniques, occupational therapy; online CBT - read both the books - follow their advice) and consider the OTHER supplements, and herbal remedies, such as a recommended brand of St. John’s Wort, (check out the SJW, and HYPERICUM websites) perhaps with a low dose of 5-htp.
Preferably use an experienced clinical psychologist, who practises hypnotherapy, (Google: "clinical psychologists; hypnotherapists") but view page O, at 8m.com. You could try the free hypnosis first, to see if you are suggestible. From memory, hypnosisdownloads.com has a course of depression treatments.
Hypnotherapy should be regarded as a way of focusing your subconscious mind on overcoming depression, and not as a potential cure. Have the blood tests anyway; most people are deficient in vitamins, minerals, and/or Omega 3 fatty acids.
