Is it possible to have cognitive problems as a result of deep brain stimulation?

About a year and a half ago I underwent a surgical procedure to help remedy a painful OCD spectrum disorder that I had. This procedure, known as deep brain stimulation, could have possibly been helpful in helping me overcome my disorder — I say possibly because I’m unsure as to whether or not the procedure or the medications or some combination of the two are responsible for improving my symptoms. I just want to know the possible long term side effects of the treatment and whether or not it is possible that it has caused problems with my concentration and processing of information.

Yes. The procedure can be helpful, but it can also affect cognition. There are pros & cons to weigh with invasive procedures.

Yes, it’s very possible. That’s one of the side-effects. I would have thought you’d have been told that.

It may get better with time, it may not. You’ll have to wait and see.
