Is it wrong being "smart-a**" with a Psychiatrist?
Until recently, I’ve never consulted a psychiatrist. I choose a psychologist over a psychiatrist with a mere thought that they generally have more insight on human anatomy and biological causes of mental disorders - in my case mild level anxiety. I read a lot, and being a biochemistry major I’ve read a lot of scientific papers about biological causes of mental disorders. My only intention was to get a little bit more info about my condition and learn some tricks controlling them (basically, get knowledge from his experience, not anything that you could read from psychiatry papers).
But as the discussion went on, and I told him about my intentions, elaborating more about the condition, possible causes (that I thought) were triggers of it and drug effectives and etc., he told me that he is not going going to give me any "scientific" info about the condition and that I should stop being "doctor" of myself. Also he seemed to be quite pissed and acted defensive when I corrected his mistakes. (Quote: "Do you know that I am one the best psychiatrists in the country?")
Was I wrong showing my knowledge in that area? How do you generally behave with a psychiatrist?

Don’t behave any certain way– just be yourself, and if you want to show them your knowledge, then more power to you. In my opinion, it was completely wrong of your psychiatrist to act pissed at you. I don’t think it was wrong of you to do this, but maybe just tone it down a bit so you and your psychiatrist can have more time to talk. Also, you might want to find a different one, because this guy seems a little.. hmm, well maybe you guys just don’t "click" if you know what i mean.
good luck!

If you’re paying the bills, you’re just wasting your own money by being a smart ass.

I completely agree with smartjarro! You obviously have enough knowledge, and maybe more than the psychiatrist you’re paying to see.
I would not recommend seeing a psychiatrist whilst being depressed. There is more cons than pros to seeing them, a psychologist would actually help, meanwhile a psychiatrist is employed to keep the drug companies in business. If ANYONE were to go and see a psychiatrist, say Barak Obama went to see one, in a disguise. The psychiatrist would prescribe him with something or another, even though he is completely sane and is experience minor problems which would only be made worse by mind-altering chemicals.
At the end of the day, the only one that can help you is YOU. Surely you’re smart enough to know that!

well, generally you are go to see a psychiatrist as you need help for a problem that you cannot solve yourself. They have trained for year and worked hard to gain their title. You on the other hand, are not a qualified psychiatrist, and probably do not know better than he does, no matter how many papers you have read. He was probably offended that you had gone there wanting help, but instead just picked up on his errors making him feel stupid and embarrassing him. Hes right. Stop trying to be your own Dr. In fact, perhaps the way you went on in there is part of your problem
