Is there a non AMA treatment for depression that works?
I’ve taken nearly all the anti-depressants. They either don’t work or make me fat, hypertensive, and apathetic. Now I’m thin and normotensive but depressed.

no, no no to the electro therapy, there are more effective ways, and much healthier.
Try going to regular counseling. A Cognitive therapist. It helps, they will show you how to sort of change your mindset so you can fight the thoughts that cause depression.
In the meantime, try to find something that you really enjoy doing, something that gives you peace and happiness. Maybe working out, drawing, a hobby of some sort. Distract your mind.
I’ve been struggling for a few years. with counseling, support from friends, and art, I have been slowly improving and going off medication. You can do it.
Hope that helps

About the only medical treatment left would be Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) which would probably provide some relief for a period of time. Normally, its only used with severe depression.
The best secular mental health therapy for depression is Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy.
But what works best is the Bible.

You might want to try a psychiatrist that is willing to work in conjunction with an herbalist. They are out there, they are just a little hard to find. I do know, however, that a lot of people swear by st. johns wort and also sam-e. As with all things, you should check with your dr before starting any kind of OTC treatment, especially if you are on any prescribed medication. Other things that help ease tensions are meditation and progressive relaxation. And try getting out in the sun more. As strange as that sounds, getting out in the sunlight does affect ones mood. I don’t know how or why but it does seem to help. It might have something to do with vitamin D absorption. I hope this gives you some alternative places to look and I hope you can find the answers that you’re looking for. Good luck to you.
