Is there any hope for me to see a qualified psychologist?

I wish I could see a psychologist right now. My problems are so overwhelming it’s affecting my health and I get sicker…

I can’t afford one with my own money, though, and I just can’t rely on resorting to the sliding scale because I want a well-trained psychologist.

I figured the best way to see one was to work in a job with health benefits so I’ve been working as a nurse aide in a nursing home: 2 months of classes, 1 month of finding a nursing home to work in, and now I’m waiting through the 3-month introductory period before my benefits can kick in…

Yet even with all this waiting, there are signs telling me it still may not happen… My co-workers keep telling me that the benefits aren’t that great so psychotherapy may not be available…

I hate going a long way only to get nothing…

People are always saying how seeing a therapist is the best way through your problems, but many don’t seem to realize how much of a quest it can really be if you don’t have the money for it…

There can be well trained psychologists and social workers who work for the county and the county pays them a salary but charges the clients on a sliding scale. This is better than not doing anything. Some are really excellent. Don’t write them off.

Te only advice I can tell you is to find a dr that can refer you to someone. WIth no insurance they have DR’s that will see patients that are paying out of pocket for cheap. You’d have to call some DR’s around you. Then from there a DR can refer you to a psychologist that will take you in for cheap beause you have no insurance. Please don;t think there’s no hope for you becuase of no insurance. There is. There’s DR’s that become DR’s to help paitents that do have less than average.

All psychologists are licensed by the state. Those who work in community mental health centers are certainly as qualified as those who work in private practice. Your tax dollars support these programs. You would be wise to take advantage of it.

Use the following link to locate affordable, state-sponsored, typically sliding-scale fee based psychological services:

I’m not sure how old you are but you might consider seeing a school councilor. Your community may have outreach programs that aid people who too poor to pay for meds or therapy. If you can get into contact with the psych department at your local university, they may be able to get you into touch with a qualified instructor (some psych instructors on the college level are certified councilors as well). I know that sometimes preists from local churches also know of proffessional therapists as alternatives for aid in place of religion. If you contact your local church you might find some help.

I can’t garuntee the services will be free but just start looking. It wouldn’t be all that bad of an idea to look into seeing a professional and working out a payment plan or alternative to payment. Most general councilors go by a pay scale and charge clients according to income, but even on a minimum level, you’re still talking about 40 dollars an hour. But help is out there if you are willing to find it. So just stay vigillant and things will work themselves out.
