On what scientific basis are SSRI's said to work?
I’ve been watching a couple of videos at cchr.org and they are proving that psychiatry is not a science yet it is another scheme of putting people at risk in order to make money. It is even the basis that racism was started.
Other than neurotransmitters and all of that, how do we really know neurotransmitters control our emotions and not us?

Ive always said from the beginning and know first hand that depression is ENTIRELY situational.
Your not going to wake up feeling depressed one day without good reason, even if you don’t realise it you do have a triggering event or situation that has caused it. The memory could be supressed or simply not seen in the councious mind as a problem.
Anti-depressants will not work to fix anything if the situation/event itself is not being taken care of.
I poped them like Smarties and they didn’t do a thing for me.
The pills cant move your arms, legs etc for you so they will do nothing to help you. In fact they hinder your chances of fixing your situation more when you get the common "numb zombie" feeling and don’t even feel like getting out of bed.
The people that swear by them and the people that say they have been cured by them did not even need them in the first place. I’ve seen many real life examples of this. They either had either very minor problems or the situation around these people changed to get rid of their depression, nothing to do with the pills.
I knew a guy who took them for years, all different sorts, all the time he told me that they were not working and made him feel terrible every morning. He then ran into some random luck and good coincidence thus his life took a different path, afterwards he praised the pills for making him better.
But take a step back, what really did cure him?
The situation around him changed.
So no, its a bunch of crap when they talk about "chemical imbalance" and the sort. SSRI’s or whatever fancy name they want to call them are as useful as placebo sugar pills.
Ok then tell me why you are depressed?
Did you just wake up one morning and think "o **** me im depressed"? I dont think so.
O and lets see some of this scientific evidence then.
or is it just "what you have heard"? because funny thing actually last time i checked nothing has been proven.
A 5 minute google search can tell you that.
And you have some nerve saying im "just a bit down", you dont know jack all about me.

As someone who is clinically depressed, I can assure you that depression is REAL, and not necessarily situational. If it was not for the antidepressants, I would not be able to function properly - including the Lexapro, an SSRI.

"Truth" was not clinically depressed judging by their story, but just feeling down. Depression is NOT situational. I have had major depression since my early teens even though I had every reason to be happy. Clinical depression has been scientifically proved to be a physical disease that is caused by low levels of neurotransmitters. Anybody telling you that psychiatry is not science is a crackpot.
edit: I did a little checking up on cchr.org and is a front for the "church" of scientology, so like I said, crackpots.
