Psychiatrist concludes that today's self-harmful liberalism is a mental disorder. Agree?

Top psychiatrist concludes liberals clinically nuts
Eminent psychiatrist makes case ideology is mental disorder

WASHINGTON – Just when liberals thought it was safe to start identifying themselves as such, an acclaimed psychiatrist is making the case that the ideology motivating them is actually a mental disorder.

"Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded," says Dr. Lyle Rossiter, author of the new book, "The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness." "Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave."

While political activists on the other side of the spectrum have made similar observations, Rossiter boasts professional credentials and a life virtually free of activism and links to "the vast right-wing conspiracy."

For more than 35 years he has diagnosed and treated more than 1,500 patients as a board-certified clinical psychiatrist and examined more than 2,700 civil and criminal cases as a board-certified forensic psychiatrist. He received his medical and psychiatric training at the University of Chicago.

Rossiter says the kind of liberalism being displayed by the two major candidates for the Democratic Party presidential nomination can only be understood as a psychological disorder.

"A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity – as liberals do," he says. "A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population – as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation’s citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state – as liberals do."

Dr. Rossiter says the liberal agenda preys on weakness and feelings of inferiority in the population by:
 creating and reinforcing perceptions of victimization;
 satisfying infantile claims to entitlement, indulgence and compensation;
 augmenting primitive feelings of envy;
 rejecting the sovereignty of the individual, subordinating him to the will of the government.

"The roots of liberalism – and its associated madness – can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind," he says. "When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious."
Concerning earnings, the desire to do what one will with whatever one earns is not a mental disorder, it’s a ‘choice’, whether they give to charity while alive, or through their Will, or give it to their children, that would be their decision alone to make. Liberals who believe otherwise prove this man’s conclusion.

    Thank You!! (by the way guns do protect us!) I completely agree with Dr. Rossiter. Some of the people who have answered this have shown the true signs as listed above especially the primitive feelings of envy. For instance, those answering by saying that conservatives are rich and want to keep all the money for themselves. Just a Gorilla implies that "only" conservatives are rich, which is totally ridiculous!! He completely ignored the fact that Hillary was able to give 5 million dollars of her OWN money to her campaign, let’s not forget most of the Hollywood elite who are extremely wealthy and liberal democrats. To further the point, there is nothing wrong with any one person being wealthy even if it is inherited wealth. Someone at some time earned that money through perserverance and hard work. They have a right to do with their money as they choose to. It is not the wealthy’s responsibility to take care of those who can not or especially those who choose not to. Also to further that point, it is not the governments job or role to equal the playing field through taxes and rules. It is only their job to Promote the general welfare not provide for it and that includes health care! The statement towards the end where it states that above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives…perfect examples are the smoking bans and taxes, trans fat bans, the constant attack from the government on legal things we choose to do that may harm us. Are we not adults who can and should make our own decisions? I feel that any bans on anything that may or may not be harmful to either us or the enviroment is only a step towards the government controlling us as individuals.
    A perfect example of this mind set is from the answer of JustLook… where it was stated that we are supposed to ignore the scientists and their warnings on climate change. Hmmmm, it was called global warming, now it is called climate change. Fact of the matter is that many scientist have come out to say that it is all a hoax and that Al Gore’s movie is nothing more than a lie and it is filled with untruths. Many scientist state that our earth is just going through it natural changes and basically we as humans have only been on this planet a very very short period of time compared to how long this earth has actually been here. We really have no idea what cycles this climate actually goes through. Simply, it is another ploy by the powers that be to scare us, regulate us, and tax us. It is another way to keep us from being able to make our own decisions.
    So again, Thank You Guns Protect for bringing this very important finding out in the open. I have always wondered what in the world was wrong with those people, and now I have the knowledge of what really is. The only sad thing about this, is that the vast majority of the people in this country are nuts and I believe that it must be contagious or something. Look at our media, and our governmental candidates!!? Unless something happens to change this course in our country, we are doomed to be like every other country, completely reliant on the government to take care of our basic needs.

    So…… if you are going to list one "psychiatrist" as a "source" and we are all supposed to bow and acquiesce under this mighty weight of "science" then….

    ….then I suppose you’re ready to accept the wisdom of thousands of scientists about the whole Climate Change thingy?

    And the answer to your RANT diguised as a "question" ….
    NO. Of course I don’t agree. I have a fully functioning brain.

    Which ‘imaginary victims’ are you/he referring to?? Our soldiers homeless under bridges?? Our poor living without homes or with trailers the size of your bathroom filled with asbestos due to a failed millitary levy??
    Guess what, there are legitimate, board certified doctors who promote all sort of things…from diet pills to minorities being less intelligent……putting a PhD in front of your name, clearly doesn’t make you an expert on everything all of the time.

    you only present one person’s view.. mainly your own…. meanwhile, many starve, many die without medical help because cunning conservatives only want to hoard as much of the wealth as they can get their hands on. As an example I can assure you that the major oil companies have conservative politicians (including the pres) in their pockets.
    sure, we all have the same potential oportunities…but why should we ALL stoop so low? if that’s sick, so be it. But what about conservative greed? that’s a major illness, with no cure in sight. It is minds like yours that have created the America the rest of the world hates. I guess they are mentally ill too. Recall that this country was created on the idealism you are now degrading.

    OMFG. Have you attempted to determine the damaging effects of conservatism? How conservatism affects access to opportunity by the population with low income. I believe there are extremes of both schools of belief, but that there is an acceptable formula that will provide equal opportunity. However, because most of the wealth is in the accounts of the conservative, and because wealth is directly associated with power, these wealthy folks are not about to give up their power. So, if you are a member of the conservative group, quit whining about how insulted you feel because we all want a piece of the pie.

    If you do not clearly see what this person is saying (sources are always good here, though), then you aren’t paying attention.

    I’m still trying to figure out when ‘liberal’ was changed to mean ‘anti-American’. Oh, yeah, and this whole pile of crap about socialism? No thank you! I’ll take our democratic system over a socialistic tyranny any day!

    Whatever happened to truly loving our country? Being proud to be an American?
    I’m dumbfounded by how many people actually want the government to run their lives!
    People! Wake up! The government is NOT your father figure. Don’t ask it to try and solve your problems and DO NOT vote for a candidate who thinks you should! We live in a capitalistic society that gives many people very fair chances for a better life. There is not caste system and the poor have many opportunities at finding a good education. I know this first hand. I got all the grants and scholarships I could and got myself the best education I could. Our country has a welfare system that will help you out of problems, but it’s not supposed to be a system to keep you dependent for your whole life. It’s a means of giving you a bootstrap with which to pull yourself up!

    Are you a victim or a victor? You can not be both.
