Shinji Ikari as a pre-op transsexual, Would that make for an interesting fan fiction story?

I’m aware that this might sound weird for a heading but before anyone, (particularly hard core Evangelion fans decide to stone me let me explain.)

I not to long ago was trying to create a rough draft of a fan fiction story I was working on. It’s set in the year 2020 five years after the third impact.Mankind has since returned to the earth. They have through their collective knowledge from being merged together during the incident have rebuilt their society into one that surpassed the previous one technologically in a short a mount of time. They have flourished & multiplied but have forgotten most of what they learned during that time, dismissing it as a something of a dream that they have a hard time remembering how it all started.

Nevr has long since been disbanded & because the angels have been defeated everyone has moved on. The pilot of Eva unit 00 A.K.A Rei Ayanami was placed into foster care & was adopted by a nice family known by the surname Shikimori.

Asuka Langley Soryu the pilot of unit 02 was sent back to her homeland in Germany & has been come a raising fashion model.

And last but not lest Shinji Ikari the pilot of the fearsome Eva unit 03 has grown up in more ways then one. After much psychotherapy has gone from a shy, melancholy, social awkward, angry & despondent boy & has grown into an: attractive, independent, moderately socially adjusted & content pre op transexual. By day Shinji works at a book store but at night Shinji works at a high scale S&M night club as a dominatrix. And is a very popular with the well off clients "he" attends to under the name Oleander. Shinji lives in an apartment with "his" room mate kawrou & sometimes wonders if "he" should complete the operation to become a full female as well as wondering how Misato & his former Eav pilots are doing.

Well that’s the summary I have anyway. The main themes in the story are about: Self perception, gender identity, psychological trauma, drug use, fetishes, hope, relationships & power struggles to name a few.
Since the character are all adults I’d figured it would make for an interesting look at how they might act when they grew older & how they would function in society
I’d only asked this sort of question because as side from the fact of making an interesting story I also wanted to hear the reactions of others who have seen the anime or read the manga. I think topics like sexuality, gender roles, self perception ,ect. don’t get talked about in an open & honest way. Or it’s either met with blatant hostility or with thoughtless rude insults by a few choice jerk asses. What I wanted from the fans of this series or those who might want to write or read a story with similar subject matter dealt with in an objective, realistic matter with a bit of dark humor thrown in the mix.

Besides,it’s not like the main character hasn’t had women’s clothing slapped on him. Remember episode 8 when Shinji had to wear Asuka’s plug suit (breast coverings & all).

Not to mention the episode where he & Asuka wore matching spandex exercise outfits. So,my point is if anyone else has any constructive critsim on wither or not this would make for a good story. Speak up now.

…I admit was a little weirded out upon reading the title, but somehow I do believe that your idea would make a very interesting and respectable fan-fiction.

Though I watched Evangelion, I’m not among the hardcore fanatics or speculators. Still, the lives of the characters after the Third Impact is an interesting thing to explore, and so you might as well make your take on it creative and attention-grabbing. While I never particularly saw Shinji as a future transsexual, it’s kind of believable when you put it that way.

Most of all, unlike with fanwork of other franchises in which I might find it distasteful to manipulate a character’s role into something that doesn’t suit him, I’d say that the vehicle of psychological exploration does suit and has always suited Shinji, and having "him" explore further topics like gender identity would be somehow appropriate.

Besides, you’ll be able to attract the people interested in the emotional development of characters and stuff, as well as the random Shinji/Kaworu fangirls… haha.

    Good luck writing your story!
