What are some pros and cons of being a psychiatrist?

I’m thinking of becoming a Psychiatrist someday because I’m very fascinated with the human mind, how it works, and how it can affect you. Can anyone plz. tell me some pros and cons about this career? Thanks
And someone told me there seems to be more demand for Psychiatrists? Is that true?

First of all, Psychiatrists and Psychologists are very, very similar in the sense that they find the human mind fascinating and they help people with their problems. The only difference is that a Psychiatrist is the only one that can prescribe medication, Psychologists do not. So you can expect studying medicine since you will be dealing with prescriptions. The pay is very nice (actually they get paid more than a Psychologist), the hours differs on where you work at (you can open your own clinic, work for another person’s clinic, work at any enforcement field (become a Psychiatrist working for the police, military, etc…), so on and so forth), and there will be occasions where you’ll be dealing with aggressive patients and you will be dealing with prescribing the medications. I know I’ve mentioned ‘prescribing the medications’ more than once and it’s because you have to be darn good at what you do. You can’t afford to screw up, and medications aren’t something to mess around with. If you still want to learn more of what they do and if you are going to college or something, work or get an internship working at a Psychiatrist’s clinic. Get exposed to the atmosphere, you can even ask them questions, but do some more research on that field so you can find out if it’s what you really want to do. Good luck! Hope I helped! :)

    Pros. Cons:
    Money earned Cost of education

    Time for education
    Helping others
    They spend app. 10-20 min.
in a session and push meds.
    Prestige

Consider Becoming a Psychologist instead, they actually counsel clients and assist in problem solving, rather than medicating.

Psychiatry is more about pushing drugs than learning about the human mind. If you want to learn about the human mind, get a PhD in Psychology.

You’ll make less money though of course because selling drugs is how you get rich and helping people with their minds doesn’t require a sellable product in most cases.

since pyschiatrists make good pay i think one of the pros could be that you can retire early

but cost and time are definately big con

but in the end it will be worth it

    just try your best

    and keep your mind set
