ECT may be the best way, Magnetic stimulation hasn’t proven itself much in the way of testing, (From when I last researched it). But ECT is great for resistant patients. It has come a long way, and done under sedation so as not to traumatize further!
What does your Dr. think that the best option for you is? I’ve heard that ECT only requires a few treatments over a few months. It’s up to you, but do your research on the up to date methods on both. It comes down to what will work the best for you and what you can trust. If you still have doubts, get a second opinion. This is your brain they’re messing with and you deserve to know the whole truth of the matter.

it seems that hypnotism works sometimes if you can find someone who can do it for real

As far as I know, there is a treatment being tested in Canada involving electric brain stimulation to regulate the signals your brain sends. It seems to be having a good deal of success. I heard about the procedure watching a 60 Minutes video from their web site.
I don’t know if the video is still available, but you could mention it to your doctor and do some research. Maybe find out how to become involved in the trials.

VNS - vagus nerve stimulator. Not magnetic. ECT will do nothing. I tried neurofeedback - did very little. I suggest exercise and broadening of life opportunities. Anti-convulsive medication is what I finally needed to regain control of my life.

i worked in a large mental health facility and at one time i have assisted doctors giving ect treatments. ect is usually done when all else fails. i have seen it do wonders for people, especially when they do not respond to other forms of therapy. you may experience some short term memory loss , but this does not last long.you may also require a series of ect treatments. i do not know if the magnetic brain simulation helps, but i know ect helps. good luck to you
