What comes after high school if I want to be a psychiatrist?

I’m going to be a sophomore this fall and I was wondering what I should do after high school? I’ve only lived in America for almost seven years now (and thought that might be a long time) I still don’t know much about this stuff. How does this stuff work? What schools would be good? Anything else you can help me with?

Go to your state university and earn a bachelor’s degree in any academic major. This normally takes four years. Take the pre-med classes listed on medical school websites and pass them with top grades during your first two years at university. In the last semester of your junior year of university take the Medical College Admissions Test for which you should register on line several months before you want to take it. In your senior year of college apply to at least twelve medical schools of varying degrees of difficulty for admission. Medical school takes four years. In your last year of medical school apply for a paid five year psychiatric residency. These three parts of higher education are usually taken at three different schools.

After high school, you’ll need to complete four years of college, followed by four years of medical school and a residency in psychiatry of at least three years. You’ll need to take a lot of biology and chemistry in high school and college to prepare yourself for medical school.
