What courses in college / high school should I take if i want to be a psychiatrist?
I love to help people and I’m pretty understanding. So I think i’d make a good psychiatrist. But I really don’t know what courses to take for that? I’m for sure going to be in college 4-6 years. Is there a specific university? Thanks a million.
Yes I was looking to go to NYU but that’s mainly art etc. But thanks anyway.

Hi! If you are interested in becoming a psychiatrist you are going to be in school for at least 10 years. There are 4 years of undergrad where you will need to take chemistry (general and organic), biology, algebra or calculus, etc. You will be needing lots of science courses as a prerequesite to get into medical school. After you get your undergraduate degree, you will go to medical school for 4 more years to become a medical doctor. Then you will need 2 more years of training in psychiatry. It’s a very long process. There are many universities to get your prerequesites (science core) done. Don’t go to community college as medical school admissions find them less desireable. After you have your prerequesites you can apply to any number of medical schools. You have to look and see which ones have the best programs/opportunities for you. Good luck to you!
