What is the difference between psychology and psychiatry?

I want to be someone that studies how the human mind works, for example, body language. Or how people feel when they write. Etc.
I want to be a professional in this kind of field.
So what do psychologists do, and what do psychiatrists do, or am I totally off, and this career has a different name?

Psychology is the study of the human mind and would fit what you just described. The difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist is that a psychiatrist has to attend medical school to be certified and they are allowed to prescribe drugs. They are medical doctors. Psychiatrists see a wide range of people (people who just want to discuss their problems to the severely mentally ill). But Psychologists do not normally see people who are mentally ill and need medication. They are usually therapists, school counselors, etc.

    Hope this helps!

Ellen basically summed everything up–psychologists normally counsel by means of therapy while psychiatrists usually use a combination of therapy and prescription drugs. It sounds like you have an interest in psychology. Simply studying how the human mind works and how people feel when they write would be general psychology; however, studying body language and how we communicate with fellow humans would be considered social psychology or sociology.

    Hope I helped! :)
