What would a school psychiatrist do if I tell her I think I have depression?

I really think I have depression and I’ve been putting off talking to someone about it but now I think I need to.

How will I go about talking to her? I’ve only met her once and I have no idea what to say to her.

Does she have one of those like, mental health tests that doctors use? Or will she tell my parents and then they take me to the doctor?
Amin K - Oh, sorry. You’re right. Psychiatrist, psychologist - both sound the same to me.

She has to keep what you tell her confidential or she would lose her job. The only rule is that if somebody tells you that they PLAN to kill themselves or someone else, then the counselor can break confidentiality, i.e. tell someone. Just go and see her, she will do the rest. Please do not worry about "Tests" as they are not always used, especially if you tell her you don’t want them used. You will feel so much better for talking about things. Good Luck.

Speak to her and assure yourself that what you tell her will be confidential. Speak to her - thats her job. She is there for a reason. She is there to help you and not to make you feel worst.

Are you confusing a school psychologist with a psychiatrist? Schools usually have psychologists not psychiatrists. They could also have therapists who do have a Ph.D. No matter which one they have they are sworn to confidentiality with the only provision that they will need to get in touch with someone when you are a danger to yourself or others. They may ask you if you wish to have this information be given to your parents. All you have to say is no. You have shown strength in asking for help.
