When you are having treatment for depression, do you feel overwhelmed?

So I attempted suicide and now I have to go to therapy weekly and take meds. I know it’s supposed to help but I just feel overwhelmed. I work full time and go to graduate school. I am just so overwhelmed…Is it because I am just starting treatment? Will it get better?

Therapy is very difficult and it is emotionally draining. Most people leave their office and go home to sleep. I did too. Recovery from anything takes weeks, months and for those that have been abused for years, it can takes years to heal. We did not get this way overnight and it is sure that we will not heal overnight either. Some get frustrated and quit to soon and this is not a good idea. Be patient with yourself and try to plan your appointments late in the day, so you can rest afterword. I applaud your courage for doing this. Hang in there, it will get better and you will too. Good mental health

I am sorry to hear about your depression. I think some of the reason you might be feeling overwhelmed is because you have a very busy schedule. Working full time and going to graduate school is a lot to manage. Therapy and medication are very helpful. Keep working with your doctor to find the dosage and medication(s) that work best for you.
Please hang in there. Good Luck.

Sometimes, if not all times, if you have attempted suicide of tought of it, ANTI-DEPRESSANTS AND DRUGS MAKE THE FEELING WORSE!!! I have friends who take anti-depressants, and they tried to kill themselves from withdrawl, or because the drugs made them worse. The best treatment is with a friend or psyciatrist, talking it out. Drugs are not the answer. What if you get offf of them, if they work, and you go straight back? If you are overwhelmed, you need to talk to someone and even cry to them, it relieves a lot of stress.

Sorry for your pain. I also attempted. It’s a weird place to be before you try that. I was on Prozac for 3 years after that. But I had to figure things out myself. I am off of the drugs and doing well. But if you have to be on meds, then that’s what you have to do, you won’t be on them for the rest of your life. Maybe the doctor has to readjust your milligrams.
